The ferry from Hong Kong is quick, but arriving without data and trying to navigate the casino strip or the old town without a working connection is an unnecessary headache. The thing most people miss: Macau is a separate territory with its own network. Your Hong Kong eSIM does not automatically carry over here. The first thing to check is whether the plan actually covers Macau as a standalone territory, or whether it only covers Hong Kong with Macau as an afterthought. Check the plan details carefully, especially coverage, validity, and any restrictions - before you buy, not after you've already activated.

Validity is the other thing worth paying attention to. Macau trips are short - often just a day or two - so a 30-day plan sounds great on paper but most of that validity goes to waste. In the casino areas, the Cotai Strip, and the city center, mobile coverage runs well - no real concerns there. The territory is small and densely developed, so you're not going to run into major dead zones just going about a normal trip. For the vast majority of what travelers do in Macau, connectivity is solid.

That said, a few outdoor spots and quieter corners of the peninsula can be less consistent. Nothing dramatic, but if you're exploring the more off-the-beaten-path parts of the old town or heading somewhere a bit more rural, keep your expectations realistic.
